シェイクスピアのゆうべ
“If music be the food of love...” It’s difficult to imagine the world’s cultural history without words like those from Twelfth Night. Along with 17 other plays, such as Antony & Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, and The Tempest, it was saved from probable oblivion by the publishing of The First Folio of Shakespeare’s Plays by two of his friends in 1623. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the great literary work, we present an enchanting evening of words and music.
シェイクスピアの戯曲がまとめられた最初の作品集 First Folioの出版から400年を記念し、シェイクスピアの演劇と音楽をテーマに、役者 ・ライター・TV プレゼンター ・ナレーター のステュウット-ヴァーナム-アトキンと、クリエイター・音楽プロデューサー・ピアニスト・作曲家の南出卓による対談と、ステュウット-ヴァーナム-アトキンによるシェイクスピア作品の朗読と、南出卓による新曲即興演奏による特別コラボレーション。

Stuart Varnam-Atkin / ステュウット ヴァーナム-アトキン
Stuart is an actor, writer, narrator, TV presenter and regular FCCJ Saturday Lunch with Shakespeare speaker. Born in Birmingham, England, and an Oxford University graduate, he was a founding member of the Albion-za and Za Gaijin theatre groups, which performed all over Japan during the 1980s, presenting recitals of famous British literary works and original Our Japan comedy shows. He co-launched Birmingham Brains Trust (BBT) in 1991. Stuart has taught drama at Meiji and Kanda Gaigo Universities, and written and co-presented TV courses as a Guest Professor at Hoso Daigaku. He was a presenter of NHK’s Trad Japan TV series and the onstage navigator of the Discover Bunraku performances at The National Theatre in Tokyo from 2018 to 2021. He has also appeared as a guest commentator on NHK Bilingual Sumo for 30 years, acted in TV dramas, and coached Japanese actors. His current activities include narrating NHK-World TV documentaries and Japan Video Topics for the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Japan. His many books include prose versions of Shakespeare’s plays (IBC), Great Dialogues from the World of Shakespeare (The Japan Times), Who Invented Natto? (IBC), Trad Japan Mod Nippon (NHK), and co-translations of Japanese manga, such as The Tale of Genji and Chihayafuru (Kodansha).
役者、ライター、TVプレゼンター、ナレーター、FCCJ シェイクスピア土曜午餐会ナビゲーター。英国バーミンガム出身、オックスフォード大学卒業。劇団「アルビオン座」「座ガイジン」の共同創設者。1980年代イギリスの有名文学作品のリサイタルやオリジナルのOur Japanコメディショーを日本各地で公演。1991年バーミンガムブレインズトラスト(BBT)を設立。明治大学、神田外語大学で演劇を教え、放送大学で客員教授を務める。NHKのトラッドジャパンTVシリーズのプレゼンター。国立劇場「ディスカバー文楽」で解説者として文楽を世界に広める。NHK二ヶ国語相撲のゲストコメンテーターを30年務める。NHKワールドドキュメンタリーや外務省の日本ビデオトピックスのナレーターとして活躍中。その他テレビドラマ数々出演、日本人俳優の英語指導に携わる。シェイクスピアの戯曲のリライト(IBC)、「英語で味わうシェイクスピアの世界」(ジャパンタイムズ)、「日本の衣食住まるごと事典」(IBC)、「Trad Japan Mod Nippon」(NHK)、「あさきゆめみし」「ちはやふる」(講談社)などの日本の漫画の共訳、その他著書多数。

Suguru Minamide / 南出卓
Creator, music producer, pianist and composer. Born in Kobe, Japan, he moved to Cardiff, Wales, when he was 13. After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, he was involved in various multicultural projects in Wales, including the UK-Japan Festival in 2001. After spending 15 years in Wales, he returned to Japan. As a music producer, he has managed orchestras in India & Kazakhstan, and run various international music festivals, competitions and concerts for foreign artists, including world-renowned violinist Shlomo Mintz. He has also supported Sir Karl Jenkins, Adiemus and LIBELA for their concerts in Japan. In 2009, to create more awareness of women's equality in Japan, he founded the Bloom Quartet & Ensemble, the first major Japanese professional string orchestra consisting of only young female musicians. This was followed by founding two more orchestras in Kobe and Nagoya, which has become the nation’s largest female-only string orchestra. In 2011, he founded the Tohoku Kodomo Orchestra in Koriyama, Fukushima, as part of his post-earthquake Tohoku regeneration project. This pioneer initiative led to many other junior orchestras being founded in Tohoku. He currently produces classical artists, runs classical concerts and dinner shows throughout Japan. Recently he started performing his own composition again after more than 20 years.
神戸出身。13 歳で渡英。英国王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学ピアノ科卒業。2005年に 15 年の英国生活を経て拠点をアジアに移し、インド交響楽団の設立や西カザフスタンフィルハーモニー管弦楽団の楽団長を経て日本に帰国。2009年にMusic Inc. 設立、同年に日本最大級の女性だけの弦楽オーケストラとなる 「Bloom Quartet & Ensemble」 を東京で結成。2011年東日本大震災をうけ福島県郡山市に復興オーケストラ「東北こどもオーケストラ」を結成、その後の復興オーケストラの先駆けとなる。これまでに「神戸市立小磯記念美術館マンスリーコンサート」、「JR 西日本主催ちょこっと関西歴史たび特別企画神戸旧居留地Premium Classical Concert」、「こうべ文化まちのコンサート」、「兵庫テロワール旅〜JR兵庫デスティネーションキャンペーン特別企画 Terroir de Kobe《灘の日本酒と音楽の宴》ディナーショー」、「盛田味の館《日本酒と音楽のテロワール》」など、独創的な企画を数々プロデュース & 出演。2021年よりソニー創業者盛田昭夫に多大な影響を受けた方の生の声を集めた映像アーカイブ「Akio Morita Club」の映像制作とナビゲーターを担当。Music Inc.代表。
